About

Heel pain from plantar fasciitis got you down? Tired of feeling like you just stepped on broken glass? Then it’s time to take action and conquer the plantar fasciitis beast.

I’m Patrick Hafner, author of “Injury Afoot: 30 Things You Can Do to Relieve Heel Pain and Speed Healing of Plantar Fasciitis.” My story: A while back, due to running and several other factors, I acquired plantar fasciitis. It proved to be a painful, nagging, escalating condition, and grew to the point where I could hardly walk. I then did extensive research to find anything and everything I could do to recover from it. The collective info I gathered proved to be effective, and eventually I could get back to walking, hiking, and running. During the course of the research I quickly discovered there was no book out there that focused top to bottom on plantar fasciitis recovery…the all-important before, during, and after phases needed for a complete, lasting recovery.

So I went ahead and wrote one. Using over 30 years of experience training for numerous sports, studies in Kinesiology at the University of Minnesota, and several months of consistent trial and error experimentation on a live guinea pig (me), I came up with a plantar fasciitis recovery plan that works. No pills, no shots, no scalpels, no gimmicks. Just a simple step-by-step system. It requires commitment, there’s no getting around it. It also requires a positive, can-do attitude, as plantar fasciitis poses a challenge. But beyond that, the guidelines are easy to follow. They are not risky and should not hurt. And they work.

After starting the recovery plan in a near-crippled state, it wasn’t long until I not only could walk again…I could run races. I soon completed a 5-mile race, then a 6.5-mile race a few weeks after that. I walk and hike extensively, and I’ve run in many other races since, including the 2008 Twin Cities Marathon 10-miler and my newest conquest, the 2009 Twin Cities Marathon.

A 26.2-mile run without foot trauma and no heel pain. And even more important than running without wincing, I can now stand in line in a store without pain; I no longer wake up with agonized feet each morning; I can walk through my kitchen to the living room without hobbling. I got my feet back and my life back. If you suffer from plantar fasciitis, you’ve come to the right place. These pages will help point you in the right direction.
